Carter Roberts is president and chief executive officer of the World Wildlife Fund, the nation’s leading international conservation group. Under his guidance, Roberts has helped WWF focus its efforts on identifying and protecting 20 of the world’s most important ecosystems to people and biodiversity and introduce a strategy that integrates place-based efforts with global teams influencing institutions and markets to reduce their impact on nature. This local-to-global approach has sparked partnerships with corporate giants like Wal-Mart, Staples and Coca-Cola, which have changed their business practices to reduce their impact on climate change and source raw materials according to sustainability standards.
Before being recruited to WWF, Roberts worked for 15 years at The Nature Conservancy, initially running its Massachusetts chapter before launching programs in Central America. He is an accomplished amateur ornithologist and has tracked thousands of species of birds throughout the world, including 700 species in North America.
