Website Share

Luke Dormehl is a freelance journalist, author, public speaker and filmmaker, who writes primarily on the subject of technology, particularly emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, VR and 3D printing. His writing has appeared in publications including Digital Trends, Fast Company, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Wired, Politico, Huffington Post, SFX, and the Apple blog, Cult of Mac. Dormehl has written four books including: Thinking Machines: The Quest for Artificial Intelligence and Where It’s Taking Us Next; The Formula: How Algorithms Solve all our Problems…and Create More; The Apple Revolution: The Real Story of How Steve Jobs and the Crazy Ones Took Over the World; and A Journey Through Documentary Film.

He delivered a keynote speech on Artificial Intelligence at the MIT Enterprise Forum’s StartSmart Conference in Poland, and has spoken at events like WebSummit, and at the London School of Economics. Dormehl has been a commentator on BBC Radio, and in 2017, was interviewed about Steve Jobs for an episode of the BBC’s Great Lives. Renowned author, computer scientist, inventor and futurist, Ray Kurzweil had this to say in the New York Times about Luke Dormehl and Thinking Machines: Luke Dormehl is the rare lay person”a journalist and filmmaker”who actually understands the science (and even the math) and is able to parse it in an edifying and exciting way. He is also a gifted storyteller who interweaves the personal stories with the broad history of artificial intelligence. I found myself turning the pages of Thinking Machines to find out what happens, even though I was there for much of it, and often in the very room.

Luke Dormehl has conducted numerous interviews with people for both print and television, including Sir Ian McKellen and Alain de Botton. He has also directed several documentary films, most recently The Pantomime (2009), a look at behind-the-scenes turmoil in a small village panto, which was narrated by the actor Simon Callow.
